Domenico
One of the great joys of travel is that during your journey you brush up against strangers like two ships passing at sea and, for a brief moment, you exchange your views and antecedents with lively animation. In this way I met Domenico while walking down a narrow cobblestone lane in Martel called the Rue du Puits (Street of the Well), which was where the townsfolk in ancient times drew their water. If one expands the photo of the arched well grooves can be seen at its base worn away by the cords pulling the pails up. Domenico is an Italian by birth from Napoli and has lived in Martel for decades. He is an artist and he invited me into his rather cramped atelier or studio to see his tableaux or paintings. It was a most enjoyable encounter. Here is a glimpse of Dom and some of his work.
